International Ambassadors for Rhino Conservation: The Pellini and Mvula Rhinos
0 Comment
In 2017, a unique initiative spearheaded by the Hunters Support Against Poaching project, facilitated by the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA), aimed to bolster efforts in wildlife conservation through art. This remarkable project brought together two sculptors from different parts of the world: French artist Ge Pellini and Namibian artist Alfeus Mvula. Each was provided with a marble block and given 35 days to craft a sculpture of a rhino. Despite the same medium, the artists’ distinct techniques resulted in two unique and compelling pieces of art. Pellini employed power tools, while Mvula relied on traditional hand tools, highlighting a convergence of modern and traditional artistry.
