Unexplained Giraffe Mortalities -
Request for Information
NAPHA has received reports of an unusually high number of giraffe deaths on farms north of Okahandja and Omaruru. Most animals showed no prior symptoms, with a few displaying signs such as lethargy and drooling before succumbing. While rabies, anthrax, and botulism are potential causes, no confirmed diagnosis has yet been made.
We urge members to report any abnormal giraffe behaviour or mortalities, and where possible, assist with sample collection. Your input is vital to help identify the cause and protect Namibia’s wildlife
Why Hunt in Namibia
Namibia is Africa’s hidden gem for the discerning hunter
Namibia stands apart as a premier destination for those seeking a truly authentic hunting experience. While regulations and approaches vary across the region, Namibia’s low population density, well-managed free-ranging game, and internationally recognised community-based conservation efforts create a rare combination: ethical, sustainable hunting in vast, unspoiled wilderness. It is this balance of responsibility and authenticity that continues to set Namibia apart.
Namibia isn’t just where you hunt. It’s where your spirit finds space to breathe.
What We Do

For over five decades, the Namibia Professional Hunting Association (NAPHA) has been a guiding force in shaping Namibia’s internationally respected model of conservation through ethical, sustainable hunting.
We represent a community of dedicated professional hunters, hunting guides, and conservationists who are committed to the principles of fair chase, wildlife stewardship, and responsible natural resource management. Our members work in close cooperation with Namibia’s Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), landowners, and rural communities to ensure that every hunting experience contributes meaningfully to both conservation and economic sustainability.
Through strict adherence to ethical guidelines, NAPHA promotes practices that protect Namibia’s biodiversity, support wildlife-based land use, and generate income that uplifts local communities. By maintaining healthy game populations and valuing older, post-prime animals, our work helps restore balance in Namibia’s ecosystems - proving that conservation and hunting, when guided by principle, can thrive hand in hand.
Whether through hunter education, policy advocacy, or on-the-ground conservation projects, NAPHA continues to lead with integrity, tradition, and an unwavering respect for the wild.
